HELION Hydrogen Power, a subsidiary of Alstom Group specializing in high-power fuel cell technology, has entered into a Strategic Partnership Agreement with M Reformer. The partnership is set to explore new frontiers in hydrogen energy by demonstrating the compatibility of HELION’s advanced fuel cells with hydrogen produced from methanol. As part of this collaboration, HELION will supply a 100kW fuel cell, which will be integrated with M Reformer’s state-of-the-art E-NOMAD system. The demonstration is scheduled to take place at M Reformer’s industrial site in Molins de Rey, near Barcelona.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in advancing sustainable hydrogen technologies. Methanol reforming, an efficient process for producing high-quality hydrogen, plays a crucial role in addressing the growing demand for clean energy solutions. By combining HELION’s high-performance fuel cells with M Reformer’s innovative E-NOMAD system, the partnership highlights the potential to overcome major obstacles in hydrogen storage and transportation.
The E-NOMAD system, designed entirely by M Reformer, is tailored for generating off-grid electrical energy, making it a game-changing solution for remote and mobile applications. Together, HELION and M Reformer aim to showcase the synergy between their technologies and unlock new opportunities for scalable, sustainable energy systems.
By combining the two systems, HELION and M Reformer aim to highlight the importance of using hydrogen vectors in liquid form to meet strong customer demand for increased on-site energy storage capacity. “This strategic partnership constitutes a decisive step in our product development strategy, laying the groundwork for the multi-vector H2 function of our systems. By using green hydrogen derived from methanol, we are addressing one of the biggest constraints of storage: the amount of usable energy for our clients,” said Vincent Mahéo, President of HELION. “We are committed to supporting the adoption of this future technology by reducing the barriers related to hydrogen storage that currently hinder its widespread use,” he concluded.
M Reformer views this partnership as an essential step in demonstrating the immense potential of methanol as a green molecule. Methanol reforming not only simplifies hydrogen production but also ensures that hydrogen is created exactly where and when it is needed, addressing the logistical challenges of storage and transport.
“This collaboration is a significant step forward,” stated representatives from M Reformer. “Partnering with HELION allows us to validate the compatibility of our E-NOMAD system while paving the way for future innovations in both stationary and mobile hydrogen applications.”
By utilizing green hydrogen derived from methanol reforming, this partnership addresses key challenges in the clean energy transition. Methanol-hydrogen technology offers a practical and sustainable approach to decarbonizing energy systems, providing reliable solutions for industries and applications worldwide.
The demonstration at M Reformer’s facility near Barcelona will serve as a crucial validation of this technology’s capabilities. Beyond this initial phase, both companies are committed to collaborating on future developments that could revolutionize off-grid and mobile energy solutions.
The collaboration between HELION Hydrogen Power and M Reformer is more than a technological integration—it’s a bold step toward transforming the global energy landscape. By unlocking the potential of methanol reforming and hydrogen fuel cell compatibility, the partnership aims to provide scalable, sustainable, and efficient energy solutions.
As the world races toward decarbonization, this partnership underscores the importance of innovation and collaboration in shaping a cleaner, greener future for energy. The synergy between HELION and M Reformer is set to redefine how hydrogen is produced, stored, and utilized, offering a promising path toward a more sustainable tomorrow.
“Our commitment to green molecules, especially methanol, is maximum, as demonstrated by all those clients who have already trusted in the products designed by M Reformer. I cannot be prouder of this great opportunity provided by HELION to demonstrate the compatibility of our system with their technology and with the desire for future joint collaborations in new designs for the applications in which they are leaders in the various sectors,” said Javier Torres, Managing Director of M Reformer.
